At least four local journalists made up of three members of the Ghana Agricultural and Rural Development Journalists Association (GARDJA), are expected in Wageningen, the Netherlands, to participate in the 2018 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) Congress.
The journalists include Joseph Opoku Gakpo, of Joy News, Richmond Frimpong, President of GARDJA and a broadcast journalist with Oyereepa FM, and Yaw Damoah, of Moonlite FM all of whom are members of GARDJA. The fourth participant is a journalist with the Business and Financial Times newspaper.
They will be participating in a weeklong programme which includes a boot camp for participants, excursion to some agriculture facilities, workshops on journalism and agricultural themes among many others.
IFAJ is a non-partisan, professional association for agricultural journalists in over 40 countries, and supports and encourages the practice of agricultural journalism in countries embracing freedom of the press.
Each year, IFAJ hosts an annual congress in one of its member countries. This year the congress will be hosted in The Netherlands by the Dutch Roots organizing team with the aim of showing the global appeal of the Dutch agri- and horticulture.
Joseph Opoku Gakpo who has been listed to pick the Young Leader in Agric Journalism Award by IFAJ along with nine other journalists from around world is already in the Netherlands taking part in the Master Class series, ahead of the main event.
Gakpo, who is an executive member of GARDJA, and the nine others will be honored for demonstrating outstanding achievement in reporting as well as excellent potential as leaders of the industry in the years to come.
