A total of 345,982 bags of fertilizer would be distributed to farmers in the Ashanti Region, this year, to boost crop production, Mr. Paul Amo Korang, the Regional Crops Officer, has announced.
These, he said, would be made up of mainly nitrogen phosphorous and potassium (NPK) and Urea.
This would come at subsidized rates, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Kumasi and said the supply could start by April.
The government, last year, through the Food and Agriculture Ministry made available 318,847 bags of fertilizer to farmers in the region.
They however, complained about the late arrival of the fertilizers but Mr Korang gave the assurance that it was going to be different this time around.
He therefore called on the farmers to hold themselves in readiness and accept to follow the right procedures to access the fertilizers.
He again reminded them to forge closer working relationship with extension officers to improve their way of doing things – to substantially increase crop yield and returns.
