The Ashanti regional department of the Ministry of Food and Agricultural (MoFA) will join the rest of the world to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), which is aimed at reducing global hunger, at Nsuta in the Sekyere central district of Ashanti region.
According to the Regional Director of MoFA, Mr. Kwaku Menkah Fordjour, World Food Day celebrates the creation of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations on October 16, 1945 in Quebec, Canada.
World Food Day is a day of action against hunger. On October 16, people around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate hunger in our lifetime. Because when it comes to hunger, the only acceptable number in the world is zero. But many people continue to live without food globally.
The event had not been celebrated for the past years in the region due to financial constraints. This year’s celebration is supported by Airtel Ghana and Zee pay.
The activities to mark the celebration will focus more on farmers in the Sekyere central district, to boost their morale in producing more food to end the food hunger.
‘Farmers play a very instrumental role in our daily life, hence the need to bring them on board by providing more food to feed the country,’ Mr. Menkah Fordjour remarked.
