The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has asked all Senior High Schools to suspend the consumption of Palm oil until the Authority comes out with its findings.
This came up after the FDA collected samples of the product from schools and traders in the Upper West Region to be sent for testing in Accra.
The Regional Officer of the Authority, Gorden Akurugu made this known in an interview with Radio Ghana in Wa.
Mr Akurugu said the Authority will give approval for consumption if the oil is found to be wholesome.
Mr Akurugu said the Authority is also educating consumers on the need to avoid adulterated food items.
Meanwhile, Director of Public Relations at the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr Kofi Amponsah Bediako says the major problem the authority faces is the unwillingness of people to subject themselves to standards set.
According to him, manufacturers are well aware of measures involved in putting products on the market but would neglect it for the craze of making quick money.
This he says puts the health of the consumer at risk.
