Ghana faces eminent famine – Expert predict

Experts are predicting severe famine in Ghana this year unless pragmatic steps are taken urgently to address certain factors affecting farming in the country.
Among the factors that experts say could cause famine in the country this year are poor rainfall pattern and widespread bush fires.
One group that has been very vocal in the propagation of the message that Ghana faces eminent famine this year is an NGO by name Hunger Alliance.
The Partnership Coordinator of the NGO (Hunger Alliance) Mr. Dwomoh Mensah in an interview with Fox News said if the prediction by Ghana meteorological Agency that Ghana will record a 15% fall in rainfall is anything to go by, then the country is in for trouble.
He added that the Microfinance scam that has hit the Brong Ahafo region will also affect food production in the country this since most of the victims of the scam are farmers.
Those farmers, he said will not be able to raise the needed money to inject into their farming project.
He noted that for our farmers to overcome the expected long drought, they must cultivate drought resistant grains or seedlings.
Mr. Dwomoh Mensah asked government to extend irrigation facilities to all farming communities in the country so that in future our farmers will not rely on rainfall.climate change
