One would have thought that the COVID 19 pandemic was going to petrify Ghana’s food production but that’s not the story at hand.

Planting season for the year 2020 commenced in spite of the effect of the outbreak of COVID-19. At the heart of the pandemic, farmers were already in preparation mood towards the farming season.
The farming season in Ghana is around March and April, that is where farmers prepare their farmlands for the main crop season
According to our farmers, the invasion of the virus did not deter them from producing to feed the country and the world at large.
Speaking on ‘Akuafo kye fa show’ on Oyerepa 100.7 FM last Saturday, they dispelled the fear that country might witness food scarcity due to the spread of the COVID-19.
Rev. Kojo Nkrumah, a mixed cropping farmer at Asante Mampong, said farmers in the area went about their normal farming work without fear of the virus, knowing very well the dangerous nature of the virus.
He said “we are duty-bound to farm to feed our people” hence defying all odds to farm for life.
He made these remarks in a discussion on farming amid COVID-19 pandemic, its effect on the farming season, and food production for Ghana now and tomorrow, on the ‘Akuafo Kye fa show’ hosted by Richmond Frimpong.
On the same platform, the National President of Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers, Mr. Anane Boateng, revealed that no farmer has been infected by COVID-19.
While at it, he said, their determination and zeal have saved the country from food deficits and the chance that food prices will go down since there are plenty of food products in the country
