Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Madam Hannah Bisiw has said government has trained 320 farmers in guinea fowl rearing in the three northern regions in order to better their lives as well as meet the local demand of meat.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament Tuesday during the 2016 budget debate , the MP for Tano South said the initiative was part of government’s determination towards enriching the lives of indigenes of the three northern regions.
“Previous governments have neglected the three northern regions despite the mass resources they are endowed with. The Mahama led NDC has provided each farmer with 1,600 chicks to start the endeavour,” the Deputy Minister noted.
She further said government has cut down the importation of dressed chicken in the country by forty percent to promote the patronage of locally produced chicken.
In a sharp rebuttal, Member of Parliamentary for Mporhor, Alex K. Agyekum said the guinea fowl initiative is another attempt to create loot and share.
“What is so important about guinea fowls that this government cannot seem to do away with? Not too long ago, this government blew millions of Ghana Cedis on the a senseless guinea fowl rearing project,” the legislator lamented.
