The Vice Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Mr Napoleon A. Oduro has made a passionate appeal to the government to provide adequate funding and incentives to the poultry industry to expedite its growth.

According to him, investment in the poultry industry for decades has been neglegible; a situation he said has brought about an increase in the cost of production in the sector.

He indicated that the development is the cause of the high of cost of local poultry as against the imported ones. This, he said, is causing low patronage of their products and restricting the local industry from rubbing shoulders with the foreign producers.

Mr Oduro made the declaration when he addressed participants at a stakeholders meeting held by the association in Accra.

Dubbed “National Broiler Revitalization for forty percent import substitution”, the exercise sought to deepen advocacy and call on government to fully implement the forty percent import substitution policy on poultry products.

The ceremony, which was attended by stakeholders around the country, gave participants the platform to brainstorm on measures to enhance the operations of the poultry industry for the growth and development of the economy.

Participants also appealed to the media to sensitize the citizenry to patronize local poultry.
