Insurance policy launched for fishermen in Accra

An insurance policy known as Fishermen Live Insurance Scheme, FLIS has been launched in Accra.

The government will bear the premium for the first three months for artisanal fishermen who register with the scheme.

At the launch, the Minister of fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Sherry Ayittey said the insurance scheme is to help deal with the challenging nature of the vocation and difficulty fishermen go through to source funds to acquire inputs in case of accidents.

She said the fishermen insurance policy will cover the life of a canoe owner and crew, the canoe and outboard motor.
