Minka Fordjour awarded for his contribution to agric on the continent

The former Ashanti and Upper West Regional Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Mr. Kwaku Minka Fordjour, has been recognized by the Pan Africa Agricultural Journalists (PAAJ), headquartered in Nigeria, as the African Agriculturalist of the Year, 2017.

The immediate past Director of Agric received the Pan Africa agricultural journalists’ excellence award for his contribution to the growth of agriculture in Africa.

Mr. Minka Fordjour until his retirement as the Regional Director, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ashanti, and Upper West recently had also served in many capacities working in the Agric sector.

Between September 2009 to August 2013, he served as the District Director of MoFA for Akuapim South, and also as a Regional Agric Extension Officer, Volta Region, from March 2007 to September 2009 and many other positions.

He was among five Agriculturist handpicked by the association to receive the award at LCCI conference and exhibition Centre Ikeja-Lagos.

Receiving the award, Mr Fordjour commended the association for honouring him with such prestigious award in the whole of Africa continent.

He noted that will African leaders will need to lead the advocacy for the development of the agricultural sector within the Subregion and Africa as a whole.

He said it is time for Africans to shift focus from traditional agricultural practice to modernize agriculture through value creation.

“Africa can only be developed by prioritizing Agribusiness, value chain management, thus, from raw materials to finished goods.”
