The National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana is re-positioning itself in an effort to aggressively support the agricultural agenda of government for economic growth as well as the welfare of its members.
This, it aims to do by organizing and positioning itself to align with various interest organizations and individuals such as Women, Youth, Government, Funding Partners among others.
Speaking in Accra, the President of the Association, Mr. Davies Narh Korboe said, the Association since its formation has in various ways advocated for the welfare of its members and wish to continue that effort even more forcefully in the coming years.
Beyond that, the Association has supported governments’ efforts at promoting agriculture through invaluable contributions such as consultative advice and the provision of other inputs.
“As an association whose members have immense experience in their fields of farming and fishing, we consider it a national duty to support the government in a much greater manner to see to the development of agriculture, an industry we all agree is the backbone of the nation’s economy.”
He said: “It is for this reason that we are re-organizing to make our voices heard louder and our contributions noticed greater, with a new brand a clear strategic direction, in our strategy document.”
The days of dormancy are over. It is time for all award winners to play greater roles in developing the agricultural industry in Ghana, to justify the recognition, acknowledgment, and investment made by the taxpayer (through the Government) We do not want to be known only for the advocacy of the welfare of our members”. He concluded.
“We are by this new-repositioning aligning with overall national agenda of moving from aid to trade.”
As a result, the Association is launching its new brand and accompanying strategy document at on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, at Miklin Hotel, Kumasi
The occasion will be used to outline the objectives and programs of new NFFAWAG as will be with the government to support its own efforts towards agriculture.
The program will be steered by Kwame Asafu-Adjei, Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo Constituency of the Ashanti Region, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs.
The Guest Speaker is Nana Otuo Serebour, Chairman of Council of Elders.
Also present will be the Ministers of Food and Agric, as well as Fisheries. The Governor of Bank of Ghana will be around to present the government’s outlook on the Ghana Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (GIRSAL) project.
The National Farmers and Fishermen Award Winners Association of Ghana was formed in 1998 and currently has over 24,000 members.
The Association consists of Farmers and Fishermen who have distinguished themselves in their respective agricultural fields and have won recognition as national, district and specialized areas, since the formation of the Farmer’s day.
It aim is to continue to advocate for the national interest of farmers in Ghana by influencing international, continental and regional conventions, protocols and agreements in relation to Agriculture, as well as policies and regulations within the sector environment.
The organization has a special focus on the empowerment of Women and Youth in Ghana.
