A World Vision project to construct a health facility for two local communities, Konkori and Kantinkyren, in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti region, have been a
abandoned by authorities, for the past 10 years after the exit of the Group.
The facility, which would have served over 4,000 residents, predominantly farmers, still remains uncompleted after several appeals to District authorities.
According to the Assemblyman of the area, Mr. Emmanuel Amponsah, ‘the American missionary group saw the need to provide a free health facility for the rural poor, in the absence of no proper healthcare delivery facilities in the two communities.
But many years after their exit, after the duration of stay of the project facilitator
s expired, the District Assembly have failed to come to their aide to complete the project.
Work on the project, had stalled for over ten years at the completion of the first level following the exit of the benevolent missionary organisation.
The project, when finished will served thousands of inhabitants within Konkori and Kantinkyren, and its immediate environs, who now travel some ten kilometers to access health care.
He said the absences of health facility poses a serious threat to the lives of his people hence the need for authorities to intervene.
Although there were attempts to complete part of the facility by the Member of Parliament of Atwima Kwanwoma constituency, Dr. Kojo Appiah-Kubi, however, no health personal has been assigned to the facility due to its uncompleted state and the absence of equipment to make it functional.
The facility now remains as a white elephant while people within the two communities struggle to access healthcare.
