Young Farmers Forum (YFF) launched

An umbrella body for farmers and other Agric workers is set to be launched in Accra in April.

The forum looks to be the voice of farmers and also to groom budding agric entrepreneurs, farmers and other workers in the industry to overcome barriers and grow their farming businesses.

The forum is also seeking to create a thriving community of entrepreneurs through increased access to business development services and financing.

The main aim of the young farmers forum is to bring together a network of farmers, entrepreneurs and its intermediaries, in a move to assist them to expand their businesses and to serve as voice in helping to shape up policies in the Agric sector.

It also aims at creating an integrated system for young Farmers across the country and to provide biosecurity, agridigital service, sprouts project and unified platform for young Farmers.

Speaking at the pre-launch brainstorming session at the Centre for Conflict Resolution in Accra, the former National Security Capo, Col rtd Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, says young Ghanaian farmers must endeavor to pull their resources together to be able to influence agric policy for the betterment of farmers.

Col. Rtd Gbevlo-Lartey who himself is a seasoned farmer also stated that success stories of agriculture in the developed countries were as a result of the formation of such various cooperatives.

On his part, the Convener of the forum Morrison Kofituo says he is excited at the prospect and opportunities that the forum is going to offer to members.

He added that the forum when fully launched will become that vibrant backbone, advocating for the transformation of the agriculture industry, from the very inception of the farm as well as agribusiness value chain by enhancing government policies on agriculture to enrich the peasant farmer whiles ensuring food security for all.

Other notable names who contributed to the brainstorming session are Dr. Eleblu of the Agric department, University of Ghana, Maj. Charles Aglago (rtd) of the young farmers league, Prof. Kudzovi of COCOBOARD and Dr. Donald Agumenu also of University of Ghana.
